Professor Gunnar H. Gundersen
Nature N1
Professor Gunnar H. Gundersen at the Department of Product Design has completed a large, demanding art project located in Sokna – at the roundabout where the new stretch of National Highway 7 – one of the main roads to Bergen – begins. Thousands of motorists will see Gundersen's sculpture every day.
A spiral of 460 meters of anodized aluminum pipe in a deep red color ends in a steel wire, which in turn is attached to a block of Iddefjord granite. When the temperature changes, a small movement occurs in the metal, which causes a spire of six-meter high pipes to change angle. In this way, the sculpture changes with the weather.
