We are always happy to advise on the right choice of pre-treatment, as a pre-treatment is essential for the subsequent finish.
With thorough advice and the right handling of the subject, you are assured that the subsequent treatment meets your expectations in terms of quality and appearance.
Today offers HAI a large selection of chemical and mechanical pre-treatments at our 25.000 m2 factory in Horsens. We make high demands on our employees and the quality of our treatments. HAI specializes in pre-treatments of aluminum for, among other things, architecture, design, surveillance, aerospace, subsea/offshore and medical.
First, the items are pre-treated by degreasing. Next, one or more pretreatments are selected. In the case of several pre-treatments, the sequence will be a mechanical pre-treatment before a chemical pre-treatment.
In many cases, our experience has shown that chemical pickling is the most attractive pretreatment method, but the choice of pretreatment depends on the customer's requirements for the properties and appearance of the final product.
The purpose of the pre-treatment is to clean the surface and remove the oxide layer on the aluminum as well as to give the object the desired structure or appearance.

symbol | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
E0 | Degreasing and Deoxidation | A pre-treatment which only cleans and activates the surface. All scratch marks and corrosion damage will remain visible. |
E1 | Grinding | The surface is sanded with a sanding belt. Removes most defects in the surface, and leaves a harmonious sanding image. It is important to define how coarse a grinding is desired. |
E2 | Brushing | Increases shine and leaves a brushed look. Not all scratches and marks are removed. The coarseness of the brushing must be defined. |
E3 | Polishing | Polishing the surface, with the aim of increasing the gloss. Surface defects may remain visible. The degree of gloss can vary greatly from alloy to alloy. |
E4 | Grinding and brushing | Leaves a brushed expression as with E2, but typical surface defects have been removed with the sanding process. |
E5 | Grinding and polishing | Leaves a polished surface with an increased shine. The grinding removes typical surface defects. Minor sanding marks may remain visible. |
E6 | Chemical stain | "Etches the surface with the aim of creating homogeneous and matte surfaces. Surface defects will be blurred or eliminated. The treatment is used to a limited extent on extruded profiles." |
E7 | Chemical polishing | The process leaves a shiny surface. The process is suitable for items with complicated geometries. |
E8 | Grinding or polishing followed by chemical polishing | The process leaves a shiny and smooth surface, with the visible effect of previous grinding or polishing. |
