During anodization, an oxide layer builds up which is porous. These pores form the basis of the product's properties and the possibility of, among other things, coloring the aluminium.
The pores are usually closed so that the oxide layer does not become contaminated, which can cause discolouration, etc. For this, a heated liquid is used which, by means of a hydrothermal reaction, forms the crystal Boehmite in the pore and thereby seals the surface.
Sealing helps to give the anodization a corrosion-resistant surface, which thereby has a longer life in an outdoor environment. At the same time, a possible color can be fixed in the oxide layer by means of sealing, as the crystal Boehmite will lie over the color in the individual pore.
This means that any loss of color that a non-sealed surface would suffer from is minimised. This protects a colored item.
If a subject is to be painted, lacquered or otherwise post-treated with printing or the like, it may be advantageous to opt out of sealing, because non-sealed subjects have a higher adhesion.
Similar choices can be made if one talks about hardness without taking into account much else. Then you can again opt out of sealing to maximize this property.
The hydrothermal reaction that takes place during the sealing process helps to soften the oxide layer.
Blowing is an effective mechanical pre-treatment that is used when there are special requirements for the aluminum's structure or hardness. Blasting leaves a nice, uniform and matte surface at the same time, the treatment can to a certain extent remedy machining surfaces, grinding marks, tensile and heat streaks, which are visible on the raw material. This is due to changes in the material structure, which achieves the more uniform surface and with a matte appearance before further processing.
HAI offers several different blowing media with different roughness in the structure to give the uniform surface a broken structure.
We have different variants of blowing agents, where depending on the desired result, you can choose between; glass beads, precious corundum, stainless steel balls, stainless steel grit and mixed blasting agent.
We have a blowing agent that suits your needs regardless of the application or the physical characteristics of the component.
The treatment takes place in a closed cabin, where our operators blow fine grains of glass against the aluminum blanks. This achieves a uniform surface and a nice finish on the entire item.
Blowing is a pre-treatment process that can be equated with other mechanical pre-treatments such as grinding, brushing and polishing.
HAI can blow glass profiles up to 8 meters in a continuous plant and offers economically advantageous glass blowing in fully automatic plants.
