Anodizing is an effective treatment used when there are special requirements for aluminum's corrosion resistance and decorative appearance.
In addition to corrosion protection, the usefulness of anodized aluminum extends very far, which has been evident over the last few years with many new and prominent buildings being made with aluminum structures and facades. The development has been with new and exciting colors as well as specially developed methods to provide a tactile experience when you get up close.
Anodizing is one of the most widely used surface treatments of aluminum profiles and is used, among other things, to create results such as increased corrosion resistance, a dirt-repellent surface, a decorative surface or a surface with an electrically insulating coating.
Anodized surfaces have a whole range of properties, each of which is interesting.
The obvious feature is increased corrosion resistance. The aluminum simply lasts better when it is anodized. In addition, ordinary anodizing will give you a nice and smooth surface that is easy to keep clean and repels dirt. Added to this is the ability to color the aluminum for a decorative purpose, either by means of organic colors or by means of electrolytic coloring. Anodizing is also electrically insulating.
The anodizing process takes place in one of our many process vessels with the aim of building an oxide layer which protects aluminum against corrosion, mechanical impact and penetration of foreign elements.
The protective surface layer of the anodization is chosen based on a desire for corrosion resistance, hardness and color properties. The anodizing layer is transparent, so that the surface can be given structure or coloring.
Anodizing is essentially a strongly controlled oxidation of the aluminum surface, which causes a transparent glassy surface to develop on the aluminum consisting of thin pores.
This process is not only outward looking, but it is a build-up that simultaneously penetrates the aluminum, and therefore anodizing is a unique surface treatment, as it is the material itself that forms the surface.
The protective surface becomes more lightfast, thicker and stronger, and the impression of metal is preserved.
The surface gets a beautiful shine with depth in the colour, which makes the surface interesting.

Anodizing aluminum is a process that enhances the aluminum's corrosion resistance and lightfastness. This means that the aluminum becomes more resistant to corrosion, which is the term for the breakdown process in metals, and more durable against the sun's light and UV rays, which also helps to ensure that anodized aluminum keeps its color longer, even when exposed to lots of sunlight.
When you surface treat aluminum with anodizing, the aluminum is made more durable and resistant to the natural breakdown and wear that otherwise occurs to metals when they are in contact with oxygen, water, sun, and when they are exposed to other natural wear and tear. It is therefore advantageous to consider anodizing aluminum and the choice of surface treatment into your project right from the start.
HAI® has the largest selection of aluminum surface treatments in Northern Europe, and our skilled specialists are always ready to help you choose the right anodizing and surface treatment. With HAI® because we collaborate with our customers to create unique and lasting solutions within anodizing aluminum and other surface treatment of aluminum, so that our products can be included naturally in your projects and withstand the wear and tear they will be exposed to in the finished product.
Without anodization, aluminum is a soft metal that breaks down easily in nature. Therefore, it is important to use the right anodization when aluminum is to be functionally included in construction, electronics or design. With the right anodization, aluminum can withstand much more wear and tear, as the protective layer is approx. 100 times thicker and therefore more durable after the aluminum has been anodized. In addition, the surface treatment ensures that the aluminum becomes both more corrosion-resistant, dirt-repellent and electrically insulating.
In addition, the structure and appearance of the aluminum is improved and preserved after an anodizing treatment, and since the anodizing layer is transparent, the surface can be colored or given structure, so that the metal takes on a different and interesting appearance. Anodised aluminum gets a surface with a beautiful shine and depth of colour, which can be adapted to each individual project.
Our specialists and many years of experience in anodizing and surface treatment of aluminum mean that we are the right partners for a project where aluminum must be included as a functional element or a design element. That is why we are available with help and guidance right from the start of your project.
There are several different treatment processes and options when it comes to producing anodized aluminium. Therefore, it can be an advantage to have HAI® with from idea to finished product when you have to work with anodised aluminium.
The layer thickness of the anodization and the surface treatment of the aluminum are chosen based on a desire for corrosion resistance, hardness and color properties. This means that the more we know about the purpose of the finished product and thus the type of wear and tear it will be exposed to, the better we can guide you in our various treatment processes and together find the right surface treatment so that the product stays beautiful and functionally for as long as possible.
At HAI® At Horsens, we can also control the coloring very precisely in the process of anodizing aluminium. It ensures a uniform appearance every time, and it offers a lot of design possibilities. In addition, we have Northern Europe's largest facilities within anodizing. Our four vessel lines allow us to quickly and easily surface treat large and long aluminum blanks.
The purpose, properties and appearance of the finished aluminum product are of particular importance for the choice of surface treatment and anodizing. HAI® always uses the techniques necessary to achieve the best result.
HAI® is always up-to-date on the latest technology within anodizing and surface treatment of aluminium, and we are not afraid to come up with innovative solutions that ensure you the right end product.
