AC3 dark red
BIG BIO, located in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, is Denmark's first cinema to be built in accordance with the DGNB Gold certification. The building's design, carried out by Arkitema for project owner NREP, uses long-lasting materials free of unwanted chemicals, which ensures that the construction can be disassembled and largely reused at the end of its life.
The facade is adorned by perforated aluminum cassettes that are anodized in a specially developed HAI® AC3 dark red color. The innovative pleated design on the cassettes creates a visual connection to the classic stage carpet from the early cinemas. This gives the building a characteristic expression that harmonizes with the surrounding urban environment.
With a surface treatment from HAI, who has more than 70 years of experience in anodizing, ensures high quality and aesthetics that make BIG BIO a landmark in Nordhavn. HAI's expertise in anodizing allows for both strength and beauty to be achieved in the aluminum sheets used, which are designed to withstand the test of time and the effects of the weather.
BIG BIO is not only an example of modern architecture, but also a step towards sustainability in construction. With its pre-certification for DGNB Gold, the building will set new standards for how cinemas can contribute to a sustainable cultural life in Copenhagen.
