ChromitAL TCP

ChromitAL TCP:
ChromitAL TCP was developed by Naviair in collaboration with the American armed forces.

ChromitAL TCP is an alternative to the chrome (VI) rich chromating of aluminium components. Also known under the trade name of Aludine.

The ChromitAL TCP process is a chemical surface treatment/conversion-covering that preserves and supplies the surface with new chemical and technical properties.

Advantages:

  • Is RoHS convertible
  • Preserves the electric conductance of the surface
  • Improves corrosion properties
  • Increases the adherence ability of the aluminium for organic coverings, painting, lacquer and adhesive, etc.
  • Heat-resistant up to approx. 100°C with a minimal loss of corrosion resistance
  • Low coefficient of resistance; < 0.8 mOhm/cm2
  • Chemically binds to the aluminium an forms a thin film on the surface of the aluminium

Application:

  • xxx

Structure and appearance after treatment:

  • Chromital TCP appears transparent with a slight blue-green tinge

Layer thickness:

  • The layer thickness is typically around x-x my depending on the treatment time
  • The weight is around 0.08 g/m2 (0.05 to 0.20 g/m2)

Colouring:

  • An indication colour cannot be added to the surface treatment
  • The quality of the surface treatment can only be demonstrated by a destructive salt spray test on a test blank.

Alloys:

  • Aluminium, alloys and cast goods can be ChromitAL TCP surface treated

Standards

TCP fulfils the requirements of Mill5541 and is recorded as being QPL listed.

Securing Options

As ChromitAL TCP will be applied to the aluminium blanks by immersion in a vat, the blanks must be mounted on a securing tool prior to treatment. It is therefore important, as early as the design phase, to consider how the blanks are to be secured.

Salt Spray Test

HAI’s laboratory has a new Ascott S 450 salt sprayer. One of the most modern salt spray tests to test for corrosion in blanks. Read more
